Design history:
Gerald Giampa’s Bodoni 26 is available in only one weight and style – ‘almost unicase’ in his words, meaning that the font works like a set of titling capitals but with some resized lowercase characters doing double duty. It is a surprisingly graceful realisation of both a reworking of Bodoni’s display sizes, and the unicase ideas proposed earlier in the 20th century, notably in the work of Bradbury Thompson. Giampa had bought out the ailing Lanston Type Company and under his direction the company focused on accurately digitizing historic typefaces, including many original designs by Frederic Goudy and Sol Hess. In 2004 Lanston Type Company (LTC) became an independent division within the P22 Digital Foundry.
